City Manager Search Firm picked for City of Socorro

For the first time in the history of the City of Socorro, a professional search will be conducted for the top position of City Manager. The Socorro City Council last night at its regular council meeting selected an executive search firm from 3 finalists. The City of Socorro population is at 32,013 in the 2010 census and at 22.04 square miles; which by population makes it:

·        the 95th biggest city in Texas, or
·        94% of all Texas Cities are smaller than the City of Socorro
(https://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/popcity12010.html )

From 2000 to 2010, the Socorro city population growth percentage was 17.9% (or from 27,152 people to 32,013 people). 32.5% of the Socorro city residents were under 18 years of age.

All three search firms brought a wealth of experience in their own right. Having placed numerous city manager's and department heads throughout the State of Texas and the Nation. The three firms that were interviewed before the full city council were The Waters Consulting Group, Inc., The Mercer Group,Inc., and Strategic Government Resources.
We congratulate Waters Consulting for being selected last night. Although the list is to extensive to list where they have placed City Manager's, a few are: Abilene, Allen, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, Denton, Huntsville, Kerrville, Lubbock, Odessa, Plano, San Angelo, Waco, and too many more to list.
The City Council expects a thorough and extensive process. Including but not limited to many different community input sessions. A new city manager is expected to be placed no later than February 2012.
